As part of the inaugural exhibition of ArtSway, a new contemporary art gallery, situated in the heart of the New Forest. Artist Julie Myers recorded on video the inhabitants of the village as they recounted aspect of their everyday lives in a rural community. The video portraits document personal histories through old wives tales, memories, gossip and even tell us how to make a good "lardy" cake. Each vignette acts as a denotation of being, and we, the audience, become witness to the record of individuals whose existence is influenced by and informs the broader social identity of a community.
The work was initially exhibited as a video projection in the gallery and documented
on-line as a demonstration of how an internet site might represent the village.
